Dallas Central Appraisal District (Dallas CAD) is a political subdivision of the state of Texas and is responsible for assessing, creating and maintaining all Dallas County property tax values for each of the 61 local governing bodies in Dallas County. Established in 1981, Dallas CAD has an average of 100,000 protests per year. Currently, the Dallas Central Appraisal District appraises property in all of Dallas County, covering approximately 900 square miles and including 813,000 property tax accounts. The Appraisal District values all taxing entities in the county. Each property tax entity utilizes the assessed values founded by the Dallas CAD.
The Dallas Central Appraisal District Board of Directors has appointed members to the Appraisal Review Board (ARB) in agreement with the Texas Property Tax Code. These members serve a term of 2-3 years. The ARB is a separate body that serves a separate function from the appraisal district by hearing and resolving appraisal matters.
